Mayor Brandon Johnson Makes a historic announcement for Reparations during the Juneteenth Ceremony

On June 17, 2024 during the City of Chicago's Juneteenth Flag Raising Celebration, Mayor Brandon Johnson made the nation news when he took two very important steps towards advancing reparations in Chicago. First, he signed an Executive Order to establish a Reparation Task Force. And, secondly and perhaps the largest achievement in Chicago Reparations to date, he issued a formal apology for the city's involvement in chattel slavery.

This is a historical moment, Mayor Johnson's apology officially qualifies as one of the five components of reparations - SATISFACTION.
